Jim Murnak Cue Cases Care

Spacers and Fillers
We supply you with fillers and spacers for the bottom of the tubes for the cue case.
The leather topped Ethafoam is designed to go t o the bottom of the butt tubes
(big tubes) with the leather side up, and the grey foam is for the shaft tubes (small tubes).

Put the butt half of your cue stick in the larger tube. Measure down to the top of the stick to see how high one of the spacers will make it rise. You can then determine if you need to use the spacer as it is, or cut it down, or use two of them or a combination of the two.

Do the same process with the shafts but use cut pieces of the grey foam to push to the bottom. Use the shaft, screw end down, to push down the foam. Once you determine how much of a small piece of foam will raise the shaft, cut more pieces to raise it to your desired level.

Leather Care
The leather that is used in the Standard and Vintage lines of cue cases is vegetable tanned, hand dyed, hand softened where necessary,  hand waxed and finished.

This leather is in the same family of most shoe leather, care will be basically the same.
Use a light wax to keep the shine and softener may be used if it seems to be getting dry. This leather tends to look better as it ages.

Dyes and Bleeding
Hand dyed leather is more susceptible to bleeding than factory dyed leather.
Darker colors such as black and dark red have a tendency to bleed more than lighter colors but in general there is no problem with bleeding. We take steps in the finishing to keep this to a minimum. Even though this is not a real problem, care should be taken when wearing light colored clothing with dark color cases until you are sure that there is not a problem.

Tubes and Tube Liners
These tubes are PVC and are fully lined with Cordura Nylon.
This material is extremely strong and should outlast the life of the case.

Carving
The carving is done by hand and achieved by cutting with a knife, tamping to raise one side and using hand tools to model the leather and in some cases doing finishing knife cuts. The leather carving is usually treated with an antique finish to bring out the carving. Care should be taken when cleaning or waxing so this finish is not removed as it will impact on the look of the case. Always test any cleaner or polish on the back or a part of the case that will not be seen.
